  • 1.  Time incongruent with SP list and MS flow email

    Posted 24 days ago
    Hi,

I hope someone can help me with this, I've posted a similar question but was never resolved.

In a nutshell, I've appointment dates (which I entered) in the SP list.
The MS flow will pick up the appointment dates based on status of another column value in the same SP list (i.e. 'Under monitoring', column values show as 'closed' will not have appointment dates)
An email notification will then be sent (based on SP list recipient email value) reflecting the date & time.

    Macro view of the flow:

    Filter query of SP values

The date is correct but the time is 8hrs off..
    What recipient sees in email

What is on the SP list

The date/time in SharePoint is in UTC. Either use the convertFromUTC() function in an expression or use the Convert time zone action within the flow to transform the UTC ISO timestamp into something more human readable and in your local timezone.

Try convert time zone and go from UTC to your local time zone.

Did the convert change the time at all, any closer to the time you were expecting it to be?

    Hi Sam,

Yes, the time conversion was slightly better but way off of what is accurate..
    Actual time: 1pm
    After conversion: 7am
    Before conversion: 5am

Something is amiss the convert should have nailed it.

This won't make any sense and probably won't work, but maybe try converting the time zone to itself and see if that makes a difference.=

You can also test to make sure the time zone is converting correctly by running a convert time zone action using the base time of expression utcnow() convert that to Singapore time. If you get the right time back it means the time zone convert is working and something else isn't working.

put some compose statements in-between steps just to be able to visualize the input/output of each step better. If you post those here it might yield some insights as to where the anomaly is occurring.

Also post a picture of the step with the email body.

    Hi Sam,

I think the issue could be I don't know where to find the 'converted time' to include in my email body.

When I was trying to find the 'converted time' into my email body i couldn't find the value for it

Not sure how you got a different time if you weren't able to use the convert time output, but to use it in the body of the email, you should put it in either (labeled here to match your flow) apply to each or apply to each 2. So either insert step before the apply to each 2 or before the send email (v2). you should ten have your correct converted time.

Where you have it now you should still be able to reference it, but it will only show the last time value. So if you have a list of 10 appointments, the way you have it right now, everyone would get an email with the appointment time of the 10th appointment. by putting it into the same scope as the supervisor, you will ensure all the details are from the same line item from your sharepoint list.
